How To Plan A Wedding: My Suggestions

How to plan a wedding, is a question asked by many newly engaged couples, who may want to be involved in every aspect of their wedding and wish minimise the cost of their wedding. For others this this is not an issue, since they simply want to hire a wedding planner.

Your wedding if it is not planned properly can be a tough, tiring and very stressful event. If just one simple thing goes wrong this can ruin your entire wedding.

Planning a wedding is not as difficult as it appears, with proper planning you will hardly break a sweat.

So, how can you plan a weding and come out looking like you just had a holiday?

Easy. With these ten (10) step you should be on your way to planning your wedding. So here goes:

  1. First and foremost you must pick a date.
  2. Set a budget: alot of couples fear having to start their marriage in debt. Your budget must be realistic enough to allow for a bit of fantasy. Decide on your wedding theme and how much spend on your dress, cake, flowers, photographer, videographer reception and your honeymoon. Always make provision for variations in cost and emergency expenses.
  3. Buy your wedding rings. You may choose to have your wedding rings custom designed or order your ring online.
  4. Select the place where the ceremony will be held as well as the reception. Some considerations might be a hotel ballroom, a fancy restaurant, the beach. After all it is your wedding you decide.
  5. Meet with your wedding officiants of your wedding to discuss the wedding ceremony and iron out any rules, policies or guidelines for the ceremony.
  6. Choose your wedding party.
  7. Prepare your guest list and ensure that it is within your budget.
  8. Decide on your menu and select where your reception will be held.
  9. Select your photographer, videographer, florist, caterer and wedding service providers.
  10. Apply for and obtain the marriage license.

So here are my suggestions share yours with us.

Make an invitation list. do not invite everyone you know but those who are closest to you.

Budget - Attempt minimal spending i.e purchase what is necessary and meaningful. Try hard to stay within your budget.

Theme - Plan and agree to a theme for the wedding. This will allow ease when deciding on a colour scheme. For example, you may want to chose your zodiac sign, example, Aquarius - fedility and your partner Scorpio- sincerity and work with complimenting colours represents the signs.

Programmes: Programes should also be made early, and a smaple be reviewed since there may be changes in the order of the songs or you may wish to revisit the songs chosen.

Bridal Party - Decide on your numbers/size for the bridal party. Find out whether persons you wish to target to participate are interested or the feasibilty of them participating.

Venue: Site see, decide on the most appropriate venue, agreed upon by you and your partner. choose locations that entice you and your partner. Upon agreement of the venue, ensure that a booking is done early to ascertain the vacancy of the venue on that date.

Dress: Make early arrangements for the purchase or make of dresses for the entire bridal party. Make allowances for lost of weight since this could be a hectic period and both the bride and groom may loose some weight.

Give tasks and responsibilities to the bridal party so that they will have a fair idea of their roles before, on and after the wedding.

Catering: Seek early replies from invitees, to ensure that catering is adequate, for it is better to have a little extra than have disgrantled guests. You will be remembered for life. Also give exact time of reception to avoid too early preparation of foods.

Rings - Take proper fittings of rings, for it would be an embarrassment to have a too tight or too large ring that would fall off your fingers right after placing it on or have a ring that refuse to move up your finger.

Accessories - Choose accessories that would suitable complement your dress. If the dress is well applicayed, then simple accessaries should be worn.

Honeymoon - Choose a scenic and meaningful venue for your honeymoon. A wedding is very special, therefore to complement the ceromony a very romantic place should be selected to spend those special days.

There is some great info on this entry from Carla and from Anonymous. I would like to add something also. Don't let you friends or family members be the main photographer. You must have a professional do this for you. I understand the anyone can press a shutter but a professional is a people mover and help you to stay on track. Make sure to meet way in advance, chemistry is very important here and make sure that you provide him with a timeline of what is expected.

Keep up the good work Carla
